PADDLEBALL |
Created at the University of Michigan in 1930 by Earl Riskey, a PE instructor, to enable paddleball to be played indoors. Currently 4 Wall Paddleball is played mainly in Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Florida in racquetball courts during the winter months.
A lot of raquetball players are switching to 4 wall paddleball because they get a better workout. This happens because as you get more and more proficient at playing racquetball you learn to let the ball come to you and you learn that most opponent shots give you 2 or more chances to get to the ball and you tend to pick the easiest one. Not so in 4 wall paddleball, you have to run and work hard for every shot. 4 wall paddleball gives you an excellent workout and it is a lot of fun.
The game is played by 2,3 or 4 players to 21 points. A match typically is the best out of 3 games.
| The Court: | Four-wall court. 20'x40', 20' high back wall at least 12'. Normally played indoors in racquetball courts. |
|
The Ball: |
The ball is the Penn 100 four wall paddle ball which is made out of rubber, pressureless, slightly smaller than a tennis ball (and similar to a racquetball ball), with a small pinhole. Black in color, the bounce should be no more than 3.5ft. when dropped from 6ft. |
